RE: Low ash oil

There's nothing new about low ash oil. Back in the 1960's when LP powered farm tractors were popular, my IH 656 LP recommended the use of low ash oil in it's engine. The only difference back then was that multi grade low ash oil wasn't available, and I had to use a straight weight oil. These LP fueled engines emitted very little emissions, and when I would change the oil, it was just as clean and clear of contaminates as it was when I installed it.

RE: My first beef with the dodge ram

The Cardan joint has been around for years. They were used on the Lincoln back in the 1960's. The center ball of the joint requires to be greased frequently. If it's allowed to run dry, and freeze up, it's not rebuildable, and you will have to replace the complete drive shaft. There is a special needle adaptor that will fit on your grease gun needed to grease this fitting.

RE: Debit or bank bill pay, which is better/safer

Judy and just returned from spending a week with my daughter and her family, who live in McAllen TX. We left the 5er at home and drove the car. Upon our return home, we stopped at a motel in OK to spend the night. The desk clerk indicated that if I paid by cash, my bill would be $20 higher than if I paid by credit card. So I whipped out my Visa. I confronted my son-in-law as to why no one wants to accept cash in a high traffic area. He informed me that so much counterfit money is being brought in to the US through Mexico, that business' in his area are reluctant to accept cash anymore.

RE: Re-pack 'em...or Bearing Buddies?

Bearing Buddys are made for boat trailers. They have a spring loaded cap that supplies constant grease pressure in the hub. Its purpose is to pressurize the hub forcing a small amount of grease out through the seal to prevent water from entering the hub while the boat tailer wheels are submersed in the water during launching operation.

RE: Wix Filters

Dodge owners with the 5.9L Cummins engine should review Dodge Truck TSB 09-004-01, which recommends several brands of oil filters to be used in their engines. It also tells owners not to use Fram and Wix filters and states the reason why.

RE: Laptop Tray, need better vent and some tilt to keyboard

I bought one from Wal Mart last fall. It is made by Rubber Maid, constructed of metal with a screen for cooling, and I beleive it cost me about $20.

RE: Gunnison, CO

Judy and I stay at Gunnison Lakeside Resort. It is located 12 miles west of Gunnison on Blue Mesa Reservoir. We have been going there for the past several years and extremely pleased with their facilities. They can be reached at www.gunnisonlakeside.com.

RE: Good overnite stops on I-80 in Nebraska and Wyoming

Judy and I recommend the Ft Kearney SP, just a few miles Southeast of Kearney and at North Platte, the Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest SP campground, located about a mile off I-80 in the Northwest part of town. Both these campgrounds are off the beaten path and offer plenty of elbow room and peace and quite.

RE: Changing From Recliners to Sofa in Rear Living Area

We did just the opposite. I removed a never used sofa and replaced it with two recliners. The sofa the manfacturers install is terrible. This works better for our way of living for the two of us while we are on the road.

RE: Directv Slimline Dish Setup Problem

On your Silmline dish, you should have four cables comming from the LNB going into a Zinwell WB68 box. And at the bottom of the box, connect a single cable to your receiver. You really need a compass and a signal strength meter to aim thr dish. Without the Zinwell, I doubt that you would get any signal.

RE: INFORMATION I HAVE FOUND ON DIRECTV

Just last week I had an HD upgrade. They removed a leased H-10 receiver and exchanged it to a H-21HD receiver. Even though both receivers belong to them, they charged me $99 for installation plus an additional $19.95 delivery and handling fee.

RE: Kansas or Nebraska?

Judy and I always take 36 highway whether we go to Denver or to St Joe. The road is excellent and there is virtually no traffic. The only disavantage is having to slow down to go through towns. As for traveling on I-80, the truck traffic is bumper to bumper and the road surface is terrible. We try to use alternate routes if possible.

RE: Extension Mirrors

Don't screw around with add-on mirrors. Go down to your local Ford dealer and purchase original equipment trailer mirrors. I speak from experience, add-ons vibrate to the point that they are useless and are constantly out of adjustment. I located exact OEM relpacement trailer mirrors on e-bay at a reasonble price and they fit perfectly. You wont be disapointed.

RE: Wake up call for CAT people...

My cat thinks he's an alarm clock. Every morning, he jumps on me at exactly 6 o'clock and refuses to let me sleep longer. Thank god I have a timer on the coffee pot.
